Who is required to apply for a carnival or amusement park permit?

Any organization with the intention of operating mechanical rides within the state of Colorado.







Am I required to apply for a permit if I am operating a bungee jumping operation?

Yes, call the Public Safety Office at 303-318-8495 to obtain an application for a permit.







Who is responsible for equipment/ride inspections?

The Director of Public Safety or an authorized representative may conduct a safety inspection of the establishment at any time, but it is the responsibility of the organization that runs the applicable operation to ensure the safety and reliab ility of all equipment and to provide proof of adequate liability insurance (as defined by the state regulations) with the application for permit.







When will my permit expire?

The state Carnival/Amusement Park/Bungee Jumping Permit is issued for a period not to exceed 12 months and a renewal application must be filed annually.

Who requires an explosives permit from the state of Colorado?

Anyone who wishes to engage in the use, purchase, storage, selling, transport, or manufacture of explosives materials other than fireworks. Permits are generally issued to individuals working for a company in an industry which requires the use of explosives such as excavation; these permits are issued to the individuals but are under the umbrella of the company that they work for. A permit may be issued to individuals for personal use such as agricultural develo pment on their own property, but these applications are approved on an individual basis with the purpose of the request as a deciding factor.







How do I get a fireworks license?

This department does not have jurisdiction over pyrotechnics (fireworks) this is handled by the Division of Fire Safety (303) 239-4463.







How do I acquire an explosives permit?

You may call or write the Public Safety Section at 303-318-8495, 1515 Arapahoe Street, Tower 3, Suite 660, Denver, CO 80202 to request an application. To properly complete the application you are required to answer all questions accurately and acquire a notary public's signature to verify your identity; you also must take the application into your local Sheriff who will complete a background check and sign off on the application. Once your application is received along with the $25.00 application fee, you will be required to pass a general knowledge examination to demonstrate your knowledge of the State Explosives Regulations as well as basic safety issues; you may request reference materials when calling for an application.







When will my permit expire and will I have to go through the same process to renew it?

An explosives permit is issued for a period not to exceed 12 months. A yearly renewal is required. Once you have passed the general knowledge examination, you will not have to complete the test again for three years under normal circumstances. (The Director may require a test at her/his discretion.)







Are there additional requirements for the transportation of explosives on public roads or highways?

Yes, you must apply with the Public Utilities Commission for a license for the transportation of hazardous materials. You can reach them at (303) 894-2000 ext. 364.







Where can I go for training in the use of explosives?

The Colorado chapter of the Society of Explosives Engineers offers training and can be reached (303) 697-5179.







Are there additional requirements if I am running a mining operation and using explosives?

Yes, if you are performing underground blasting, you must apply with the Division of Mines. They can be reached at (303) 866-3567.







My permit is about to expire, can I keep the explosives I have already purchased in my magazine?

No, you're required to have a valid permit for the storage of explosive materials. If you have explosives on hand when your permit expires, contact your local sheriff and inform him/her of your situation. A list is sent to every county sheriff monthly o f all of the personnel in their county who holds a permit and whose permit has expired.

What are the requirements for a facility to be used for pre-school children?

Pre-schools are not allowed in basements or on second floors. They must be located at ground level. Also, all pre-school rooms require two exits.

Yes. Fees will be charged for all projects; the amount will be determined at the time of the plan review.







What is the procedure for submitting school plans and specifications for state approval?

Submit one set of drawings stamped by the Architect and Engineer, along with an application -- allow two to three weeks for final approval.
